New visitors to this web site - navigation aids

  • You may not always see the latest version of a page - most important for the home page. Hit the refresh or reload button in your browser or change the browsers settings to check for newer versions of pages.
  • Clicking on the logo at the top left of every page will return you to the home page.
  • Pages have quick navigation bars at the top of every page which take you direct to major areas. In Internet Explorer, the information below each link is popped up as a tip.

  • Some of the interior pages have additional left navigation bars (gray).
  • Every page has a search box for items on this web site and a link to a site map near the bottom of the page.
  • The symbol is used to mark newly added items (usually followed by the date it was added). These are typically removed after about one month or if the item is no longer current.
  • The Significant changes to these web pages link on the home page points to recently changed interior pages of the site. Only major changes are listed here. Frequent users of the site should look here and at the news items occasionally. There are also newly added links to exterior sites.
  • The last line of most pages is the date that the page was last changed. Please about pages which look like they are getting stale and need updating. Also about dead links.
  • The Overview Map of Area Served by the NY-NJ Trail Conference link on the home page is the primary link for finding out about trails in the NY/NJ metro area.
  • When this icon appears in the upper right corner, clicking on it will take you directly to the Hikers Market Place where you can purchase books, maps, memberships, etc. or contribute.

  • Sterling Forest Partnership is a separate web site which we maintain in space shared with the Trail Conferences web pages. It has different navigation aids.
  • There are many links to pages outside our domain, particularly on the other links page. We have no control over their content or the ability to return to the Trail Conference site, but the BACK button of your browser usually works. Push it enough times and you will get back to our pages. Many of them will pop up the linked-to site in a new window which you can close when you are done with it.

Forums/Discussion Groups

The Trail Conference provides the Viewpoint Forum for discussion of issues relevant to our domain. Among others, appropriate uses are: trip reports of neat places to hike, individual sale of camping/hiking equipment, trail conditions, looking for hiking partners, Trail Conference policies, environmental concerns (trail or land preservation related).
