General Description
The first mile of this section is on an old dirt road through the woods. The rest
of the section follows paved roads, some quite busy, that pass through the
hamlet of Kerhonkson, in the town of Wawarsing, and rural Ulster County.
Access
Take the New York State Thruway to Exit 18, New Paltz. Continue west on
NY Route 299 through the Town of New Paltz. At the T-junction with US
Route 44/ NY Route 55, turn right to head uphill. About a mile beyond the
Minnewaska State Park parking area on the left and a few hundred yards past
a small stream crossing, turn right on a narrow gravel access road. Take the
first right to the parking area.

Trail Description
north on Jenny Lane.
0.10 A gravel road goes left 0.1 miles to Route 44/55. The Long Path continues
straight ahead on a dirt road not open to traffic. The general trend is
downhill through the forest. At one point, there is a view of the Catskill Mountains.
1.00 Reach the end of Old Minnewaska Trail, a gravel road. A few cars can be
parked here. The trail continues straight ahead and crosses a wooden bridge.
1.30 The road becomes paved and houses become more frequent.
1.80 Old Minnewaska Trail ends at Upper Granite Road (Ulster County Route
27). The trail turns onto Upper Granite Road.
2.30 Upper Granite Road ends at US Route 44/55. The trail turns right and
follows this busy highway.
2.80 Pass through an intersection and continue downhill.
3.40 Where the road flattens out, take the first right (Minnewaska Trail).
This road has a double yellow line but no sign.
3.90 Cross Rondout Creek on a steel bridge in Kerhonkson.
4.10 Cross US Route 209 at a traffic light.
4.15 At a split in the road, turn left onto a quiet residential road (Clay Hill Road).
4.40 Cross a small stream.
5.60 Turn left onto Ulster County Route 3, a busy street.
5.90 Take the first left on Cherrytown Road and go uphill.
9.50 Pass Baker Road on the left.
9.60 The trail turns left where the road it has been following ends on another
road, Upper Cherrytown Road, that goes straight and left. As it makes the
turn, houses are on the left and a garage is on the right.
12.80 The section ends at a DEC parking area on the right side of the road.
To continue, turn left and enter the woods on a DEC snowmobile trail.
