HIKE THE HILL American Hiking Society invites you to participate in our annual Hike the Hill: Trails Advocacy Week, scheduled for February 27 - March 2, 2005, a pivotal time in the federal budget cycle. Congress needs to hear from you about the issues that affect your trails and trails nationwide.
Advocacy Week includes sessions on policy issues, training in lobbying and advocacy skills, a lobby visit debriefing, and an event on Capitol Hill. Most of the week is devoted to your congressional meetings. Our advocacy efforts for 2005 will focus on full funding for trails and recreation management within the National Park Service, USDA Forest Service, and Bureau of Land Management and other trail-related legislation and policies. |

Please join the North/Central NJ Inner City Outings (ICO) group for a fun introduction to the group and hike in Harriman State Park on Saturday, April 16th, at 10am.
If you are not familiar with North/Central NJ ICO, we are a community outreach group of the NJ Sierra Club that provides opportunities for urban youth from northern and central NJ cities to explore, enjoy and protect the natural world.
We will start the April 16th event with bagels and a short introduction to the group and our activities followed by a moderate hike. Bring a bag lunch and feel free to bring children five years old +. If you are interested in joining us on April 16th or would like additional information on ICO please contact us at NJICOutings@aol.com. Public Transportation: Fort Lee Historic Park is immediately south
of the George Washington Bridge (GWB) on the east side of Hudson Terrace,
on the New Jersey Palisades. Frequent bus service from the GWB terminal
in Manhattan is available, or enjoy the lovely and free one-mile walk
across the bridge. Ample free parking is available.
From the Palisades Interstate Parkway: Get off the last exit before
the bridge toll (right fork after the gas station - be sure to exit!).
Follow Hudson Terrace south under the bridge and take the first left
into the park.
From New York City: Take the upper level of the GWB and use the second
exit, which is Fort Lee. Make a sharp right and another right onto
Hudson Terrace south under the bridge and take the first left into
the park.
From the New Jersey Turnpike: Take the Fort Lee exit, and continue
straight on the service road, paralleling the bridge toll plaza, until
the service road ends at Hudson Terrace. Turn right onto Hudson Terrace,
and then make the first, almost immediate, left turn into the park.
