Monday, August 30/ Historic 1777 Trail/TIME: 6 p.m.

Leader: Jane Daniels. Jane is Chair of the TC Board of Directors and Co-Chair of the East Hudson Trail Committee.

This easy ½ mile hike will take you down to scenic Popolopen Creek, where you will see the Popolopen Bridge, constructed last spring by the West Hudson Trail Crew. Bring a snack and drink to enjoy while stopping at the bridge. A tasty dessert will be provided!

Sunday, September 19/Little Long Pond /TIME: 1 p.m.

Leader: Jan Hesbon. Jan is a member of the TC Development Committee.

This is an easy 4-5 mile hike, which will begin at the R-D trailhead on Route 106 (west of Little Long Pond). We will take the Lichen Trail at Ship Rock to the AT, around Island Pond to Boston Mine and, back via the Nurian Trail to the Ramapo-Dunderberg (R-D).

Friday, September 24/Storm King /TIME: 10 a.m.

Leader: Chris Connolly. Chris is a member of the TC Development Committee and supervisor of the trails in Storm King State Park.

This moderate 3.5 mile hike will make a loop through Storm King Park where you will see spectacular views of the Hudson Valley! There is an ascent of 400-500 feet required in this hike.

Sunday September 26/Old Cro’s Nest/TIME: 1:00 p.m.

Leader: Gary Haugland. Gary is a member of the TC Board of Directors (past president of the Board), Trails Council Chair and Long Path Supervisor, Orange County.

This moderate and steep 2-mile hike in Storm King Park, on both the Howell and Stillman Spring Trails, offers spectacular views of the Hudson River Valley. During this hike, you will learn some regional history, including the legal battle to save Storm King Mountain. Listen to passages from the diaries of William Thompson Howell, an early promoter of hiking in the Hudson Highlands, whose words have fed the curiosity of many who have followed in his footsteps.

Thursday September 30/Cranberry Lake County Park/TIME: 3 p.m.

Leader: Walt Daniels. Walt is supervisor of the Appalachian Trail in Putnam County, Co-Chair of the East Hudson Trails Committee and TC Webmaster.

This easy 2-mile hike wanders into Cranberry Lake County Park, the quarry site for the stone to build the massive Valhalla Dam. During this hike, learn how the TC produces books and maps using the latest technology including GPS (global positioning system) and GIS (Geographic Information System) as we explore this pretty park, included in an upcoming book on hiking in Westchester County.

Wednesday, October 6/ Wyanokie High Point /TIME: 10 a.m.

Leader: Chris Connolly. Chris is a member of the TC Development Committee and supervisor of the trails in Storm King State Park.

This easy 4-mile loop hike will go to Wyanokie High Point in Norvin Green State Forest. There is a steep ascent to a view overlooking the Wanaque Reservoir. There is an ascent of 400-500 feet required in this hike.

Monday, October 11/Indian Hill Loop /TIME: 10 a.m.

Leader: Peter Heckler. Pete is a member of the TC Board of Directors, and Chair of the West Hudson South Trail Committee.

This moderate 4.25 mile hike contains one gradual 300 ft. climb and descent. Along the way will be some interesting stonewalls and great viewing points into both Harriman and Sterling Forest State Parks. You will see the 35 ft Mombasha Creek Bridge, built by TC volunteers and possibly a black bear (or two) if lucky!

Friday October 15/Ramapo Valley County Reservation/TIME: 10 a.m.

Leader: John Moran. John is a member of the TC Board of Directors, Chair of North Jersey Trails and Supervisor of the Ramapo Valley County Reservation.

This moderate 5-mile hike traverses the Old Guard Trail in Camp Glen Gray, part of the Ramapo Valley County Reservation. This hike will feature trails that have been restored over the last 2 years, since Camp Glen Gray came into the public domain.

Sunday, October 17/Anthony’s Nose /TIME: 10 a.m.

Leader: Herb Hochberg. Herb is treasurer of the Trail Conference.

This is a moderate 2-mile round trip hike up “Anthony’s Nose,” with spectacular views of Bear Mountain and the Hudson River. There will be a short stretch of steep trail, including a 500-foot elevation gain.

Tuesday, October 19/Ramapo Valley County Reservation/TIME: 10 a.m.

Leader: John Mack. John is a trail maintainer in Sterling Forest and trail crew member. As a TC office volunteer, he headed the efforts towards the recent passage of the New Jersey Highlands Water Protection and Planning Act, and is currently involved with digitalizing TC maps.

This moderate 4 ¼ mile loop hike of Ramapo Valley County Reservation will begin along the Ramapo River. You will pass ruins of an old building and may be lucky enough to see a seasonal cascade! Watch for wondrous woodlands and farmland along the way.

Sunday, November 7/Seven Hills Trail /TIME: 10 a.m.

Leader: Peter Kennard. Peter is a member of the TC Development Committee and is a nominated member to the TC Board of Directors.

This moderate 3-4 mile hike along the Seven Hills Trail in southern Harriman State Park, contains some steep ascents and descents, giving you scenic views into the interior of Harriman State Park.
