The official list of invasives in our region:

Many of these are not common on trails and hence are not a particular problem to hikers. The sections below list a few of the ones that are common on trails and do cause problems, not all of which are on the list above.

Native Invasive Species

  • Poison Ivy
  • Greenbriar

Exotic Invasive Species

  • Japanese Stilt Grass (Microstegium vimineum)
  • Japanese Barberry (Berberis thunbergii),  Common Barberry (Berberis vulgaris)
  • Garlic Mustard (Alliaria petiolata)
  • Asiatic Bittersweet, Oriental Bittersweet (Celastrus orbiculatus) 
  • Multiflora Rose (Rosa multiflora)
