2. The Mitzvah Day for 2002 will be held on Sunday, April 28. The organizers would like our project ideas by January 15th. Call Ron Rosen with your project proposals as soon as you read this! 
3. Monitor Supervisors: The fall Corridor Monitoring supervisor reports are due to the Chair by February 15th. All reports by Monitors should be in to supervisors by now.

2. Meeting Centerpiece: Planning for 2002—we will continue the process begun at the last meeting to identify tasks and projects to be accomplished this year. See the attached goal list, and please review for prioritization!

Information, Comments, & Notes

1. All Committee members, please attend this meeting; or please call the Chairman (Ron Rosen: 845/454-4936 (be persistent) or 454-1721 (leave a message if not in) if you CANNOT attend. ALSO, call Ron if you are unsure as to whether we will invoke the weather date, but please call on Tuesday, January 15th no later than 6PM if you are unsure if we are likely to proceed with the meeting as planned.

2. We have received notices from the AT Land Acquisition office that sections of the original Mounts surveys in our area (portions of segments 266-273 and 276-278) have been reviewed and the determination made that resurvey should be done. The contract for resurveying has been given to Hartmann Associates and work will proceed in the first half of 2002. We hope to obtain more details as to the work to be done by this meeting.

  • Thanks to Salley Decker, we will have excerpts from the NY newsletter of through-hikers Cesar Becerra and Maud Dillingham, journalists who are doing a sponsored through-hike called "Peaks for Progress" to support Diabetes Research. Cesar and Maud interviewed Salley, Jane Geisler, Bob Woodin, and Father Fred during their southbound travels in December. Salley can fill us in on their activities also!


DPATMC Potential Goals for 2002 work year

Carryover from 2001:

  • Nuclear Lake campsite: site has been scouted, project on hold [issues remain]

  • Nuclear Lake interpretational sign, text complete, need funding and construction

  • Management Plan 5 year update, in progress, needs paperwork followup to field work

  • Resolution of remaining acquisition and survey needs, ongoing

  • Cleanup of Hiller Brook old boardwalk materials

  • Canopus Hill waterbars, sidehilling

  • Taconic Parkway approach—complete repair of new trail route

  • Morgan Stewart privy relo

  • Telephone Pioneer Shelter privy relo

  • West Dover Oak: move parking away from tree, develop alternative parking, signs

  • Determine Corbin Hill tree planting resolution

  • Schagticoke maintainer/monitor access and required gating

New for 2002:

  • Work with NPS on Nuclear Lake Caretaker’s Agreement

  • Develop plans for the building(s) at Messerschmitt

  • Bulletin Board redesign and replacement

  • Graymoor Friary yearly availability to be determined

  • Add middle railing to Deuel Hollow Bridge

  • Fill out Monitor ranks, ongoing

  • D/P Brochure, ongoing updates, eg address change (prepare for 2003)

  • Research alternative privy designs

  • Routed road crossing signs (In progress thanx to Fred Gerty )

  • Update management plan text to include road crossing signs

  • Review of water supply issues

  • Have another look at Hiller Brook realignment possibilities
