2. On Friday, April 4, Walt Daniels, George Muller, Ron Rosen, and Larry
Wheelock met with T-Mobile personnel at the I-84 rest area and the AT overlook
to determine
the impact of the planned 150' cell tower. Digital photos were taken by Ron,
Walt, and Larry, and these can be viewed on the web (contact Walt for URL)
but be forewarned that Ron’s and Walt’s pictures each run about
10-15 megabytes in PDF file format as a download. Walt Daniels can send out
a CD
with the photos for those who aren’t up to large downloads. At this meeting,
we plan to determine our response to T-mobile’s proposal. Probable choices:
(1) accept the 150' height and work to mitigate the tower’s visual impacts
[minimize the antenna ‘triangle’ size, use neutral colors for surfaces,
etc.]; or (2) attempt to fight the height and/or location of the tower. T-Mobile
staff warned us that the latter course might be difficult, as we would be working
with (?) the NY State Thruway Authority, with which T-Mobile has an outstanding
contract to build-out a set of towers on the Thruway right of way.
