The meeting was called to order at 7:20PM, after a great potluck supper.
Jane Daniels welcomed all (as Board Chair of NY-NJ Trail Conference), and mentioned that she is chairing the biennial meeting at Ramapo College this week in 2007 (details on ramapo2007.org).
FYA items:
- L.L. Bean Grants to Clubs application (10/2/06 deadline)
- Final Written Scope for EIS of Dover Knolls Development—the Harlem Valley State Hospital property. [Walt will review first, then Gerry Richardson].

- Agenda for August 3, 2006 meeting of the NY/NJ TC Trails Council
- Urgent Business, short updates, etc.:
- Water testing update (Jane). Jane went out with Chris and Alex in mid-June; no one has heard anything from the DC Health Department regarding results. Jane also reported that the Wiley Shelter well is failing again. Chris and Alex (SCA interns) will do another round of well testing soon.
- SCA crew update – boundary work, Harlem Valley relocation, bulletin boards (Alex & Chris). Alex indicated that so far they have done about five segment maps of boundary, one day of water testing, and one day of rock work on the Harlem Valley relocation. Frank Dogil said he would be willing to work with them on the HV Relo. Chris’ email for access is whentheworldends4@yahoo.com , and after 7/21, his cell number will be 585-729-9650.
- Funding requests for L.L. Beans’ Grant to Clubs - deadline Oct 2. Hiller Brook, our AT brochure, other
- Tim Messerich’s AT Work Crew results from July 7 – 9: did turnpiking and puncheon at RPH, re-decked the bridge, cleaned out water bars, installed new ones, opened up the trail on Shenandoah Mountain, stone steps near the bridge, removed construction debris from near the parking area. Did a LOT of work in three days.
- September meeting date change – Sept 11 instead of 18.—East Fishkill Library Cross Room, 7PM. Jim mentioned that Ralph Ferrusi will be giving a talk on July 20 on his new book, “Catskill Tales and Trails” at the library (probably 7PM).
- Other communications and announcements as time allows
Jane Geisler mentioned a friend is having some large pines cut down, and wondered if we have any use for them (others noted they may rot too fast for trail use).
Ollie Simpson reported a bog turtle was found in the vicinity of the puncheon trail north from the Oak Tree on West Dover Road.
Walt Daniels mentioned that the mid-Atlantic partnership committee will meet in Putnam County November 11-12, probably at Taconic Outdoor Ed Center in Fahnestock Park.
Jim Haggett reported that the NPS has been notified that the road into Nuclear Lake needs reworking.
Jim Haggett reported that Bob Woodin, longtime caretaker of Wiley Shelter, passed away on June 18th. Jane Geisler asked if anyone would like to contribute to a memorial donation to ATC; we decided to have people send donations to Jane. Jane will forward donations; send to Jane Geisler, PO Box 134, Verbank, NY 12585.
