Special Worktrips for experienced trail builders

A great opportunity to work with several master trail builders is coming to us this spring. Peter Jensen and several of his Associates will be working on the Bear Mountain Project from the first or second week in April through the middle of May. The typical front country style rock steps and crib walls will be constructed in addition to mortared bridge abutments.  He is welcoming 2 experienced trail workers, plus up to 2 less experienced workers each day or weekend depending how the schedule goes. If any of you feel like taking this opportunity or feel confident that some members of your crew are capable and interested you should let me know.

Overall, each day we will expect some level of experience with volunteers working with his crew. Trail Crew Chiefs, leaders, and all crew members recommended by a Trail Crew Chief or leaders are welcome.  In order to take an experienced slot you must have experience with stone splitting, highlining, and cribbing.   Participants in the other two slots each day only need to have familiarity with safe trail crew practices and be able to move around on the steep hillside.  Beginners are welcome to register to work during this time period at Bear Mountain as well but will be introduced to the project through Eddie Walsh and his leaders. In addition from late March through mid-April there will be a series of workshops offered covering the basics of the Bear Mountain techniques. Free accommodations are available for volunteers at the Lower Twin Lake Camp in Harriman.
