The East Hudson Trail Crew has some exciting projects in 2009, with opportunities to build several new trails and numerous trail repair projects. We are short on crew leaders to achieve this ambitious program, so trips will have an emphasis on crew leader training. No special skills are required, the crew leader and other experienced crew members will teach newcomers. New trail construction generally has more opportunities for lighter work. Work on new trails guarantees you an opportunity to maintain the trail that you helped to build. The Trail Conference trail crews are made up of volunteers dedicated to the construction and rehabilitation of foot trails. Volunteers must become members of the Conference to participate in these projects. A one time "guest" participation is allowed. If you would like to volunteer for any of the below projects please contact the listed leader for information on meeting times and places. We make a special effort to arrange pickups at the nearest Hudson Line train station (schedule). If you are coming by train, be sure to let the leader know so that we wait for the train (YOU MUST RSVP). For all trips bring work gloves, water, lunch and friends.
WONDER LAKE TRAIL PROJECT Help construct a new trail in a recently opened New York state park in eastern Putnam County. This exciting project is a fantastic way to learn about how a trail is created and what tools are used. No prior experience is needed. We will train you. Projects include side-hilling, rock steps, and blazing. Proper footgear is necessary; bring your own lunch and plenty of water. We began construction in the Fall of 2008. Once it warms up again, construction trips will resume. Check the website for updates, or contact Christie Ferguson, the East Hudson Trail Chair, and ask to be put on the East Hudson Trail Crew Email List. The Trail Crew from our October 11 trip at Wonder Lake
A large section of side hilling was completed.. as well as several rock steps!
