Yes, the AT Pochuck relocation is usable, but it’s not done! The old route is still marked so finding the new route takes a little persistence.

Schedule For Spring 2002

Volunteers are needed for two upcoming Pochuck Wrap-up Weekends: April 20-21, May 4-5 and possibly May 11-12.

The remaining work includes: extending the boardwalk at the Rt. 517 end out to Rt. 517--approximately 200 feet; adding boardwalk over a low spot in the woods, contiguous to the last section completed in the fall—approximately 150 feet; installing edging and railings on the last sections completed last fall; and installing tie-downs on much of the boardwalk constructed last summer. In short, there’s plenty to be done!

Meeting time is 9:00 am on all days. Please phone the leaders for the meeting place—where we meet will depend on where we will be working.

What to bring

Long pants and a long sleeve shirt, work gloves, heavy boots if you have, plenty of water, lunch, sunscreen and insect repellent.

Directions

From the stop light in Vernon where Rts. 94 and 515 converge go north approx. 2 miles to Prices Switch Rd, (515 continued), just south of HEAVEN HILL FARM. Turn west on Prices Switch Rd. and continue approx. 1 ½ miles to a left, (south), entrance into a field that is marked with a pink flagging tape tied to a branch. Look for this turn past the turn-off for Canal Road and just past an old white silo on the south side of the road partially hidden in the trees. If you pass a gated field entrance with a pink triangular warning symbol on it you’ve gone a couple of hundred feet too far.

Turn into the field, go about 100 ft. then follow the tracks to the right, down hill along the side of the field, across it’s bottom, through a line of trees, into the next field where you can park.

If you’re coming up or down Rt. 517 cross over to Rt. 94 on Maple Grange Road and continue as above.

(Canal Road does not go through to Prices Switch but does have parking at the AT from which you can hike in on the unopened part of the AT to the work site).
