Suggested Hikes - Harriman Trails

Harriman Trails: A Guide and History

Harriman Trails: A Guide and History contains descriptions of trails, not of hikes. As originally written by Bill Myles, no hikes were included.  When working on the first edition of the book, Daniel Chazin, who served as editor of the first two editions, suggested to Bill Myles that another section be added to the book that would include a number of loop hikes. However, Bill was not receptive to the idea, and the suggestion was not implemented

However, the Trail Conference has an extensive database of hikes in the metropolitan area based mostly on the "Hike of the Week" column by Daniel Chazin that has appeared for the last nine years in The Record (Hackensack, N.J.)  An extensive array of varied hikes in Harriman-Bear Mountain State Parks are contained within this database, and the following links lead to some suggested hikes.

While the Trail Conference is not a hiking club, a number of independent member clubs do sponsor hikes in the New Jersey Highlands.  Visit our Member Clubs page for a listing of these clubs and links to their webpages.
