What We Do

As the leading trail organization in the region, The Trail Conference helps public agencies provide safe and responsible public access to open space stretching from the Delaware Water Gap north to beyond the Catskills. And we do it all with volunteers!

Trail Access
We build and maintain 1,700-mile network of hiking trails serving a major metropolitan area.

Trail Information
We publish the most authoritative trail maps and regional hiking books; promote environmental conservation, responsible use of the backcountry and trail etiquette.

Trail Stewardship
We monitor the ecological integrity of trail lands and minimize the ecological impacts of recreational use.

Trail Protection
We advocate for open space and trails and the conservation of protected corridors to link public parks and preserves in the region.

Trail Engagement
We connect people with nature through hiking and active volunteering.

Trail Partnerships
We work with public agencies and not-for-profit organizations to strengthen the region’s access to natural open space.
