Learn the basics of stone construction: setting stones, constructing crib/retaining walls, and installing rock steps. Topics covered include how to set a base tier, achieving solid points of contact, avoiding running joints, and proper backfilling for walls. Utilizing native fieldstone as a building material, students will use rock bars, pick mattocks, and mash hammers. Students will also be introduced to basic stone shaping hammers and how they can aid the construction process should they be available.
