Students will learn to use the basic principles of layout and design, as well as the techniques and tools, to construct a sustainable hiking trail. Topics covered include site preparation, basic trail terms and concepts, moving from design to construction, and methods of constructing proper trail drainage and tread. You'll also learn how to construct erosion control devices such as drainage dips, water bars and steps. This is a popular and instructive workshop that includes an indoor presentation as well as field work. No previous experience is necessary and beginners are welcome.
