Long Path Temporarily Closed on High Tor
Coyote activity—in particular a den with an assertively defensive parent—has resulted in the temporary closing of the Long Path on High Tor. Check here to keep up with the status of this closing.
Pipeline Work to Affect Trails in Sterling Forest & Harriman
A natural gas pipeline that extends through portions of Harriman and Sterling Forest State Parks, is set to be replaced this summer as part of the Millennium Pipeline project. Some trails may be disturbed or occasionally closed during this project. Click here to read more.
Trail Conference Awarded $15,000 for Shawangunk Ridge
On June 19 the Land Trust Alliance announced that the Trail Conference would receive a grant of $15,000 to assist in the clean-up of a Shawangunk Ridge property so that it can be added to the New York State park system. Read more here.

Last Minute Wins in NY & NJ Legislatures
Nearing the end of its legislative session, the NYS legislature approved a bill that permits municipalities in the counties off Westchester and Putnam to levy real estate transfer taxes for the benefit of open space preservation and another that would enhance the state’s Environmental Protection Fund. In New Jersey, a November referendum on environmental funds is planned. Click on links to read more.

Don’t forget to check the status of your destination trails. While most trails have been cleared of blow-down left by an April nor’easter, some are still blocked. Check with DEC for updated information.
