Sign Up for June 10 Workshop on Monitoring Rare,
Threatened, Endangered Plant Species Along Our Trails

Participate in the AT Natural Heritage Monitoring program, a long-term project designed to provide volunteer-collected data on known rare species occurrences in order to track their status over time. A training workshop for new monitors will be held on June 10.

Many High Elevation Catskills Trails Still Closed
Blow-downs continue to block trails in portions of the northern Catskills with varying levels of severity, particularly at the highest elevations. Check with DEC for updated information before heading to trails in the region.

Jim Hall, new Executive Director of the Palisades Interstate Park Commission (PIPC), will be the guest speaker at the June 14 Trail Conference Delegate’s meeting at Ross Dock in Fort Lee, NJ. All are invited. Get details and directions.

Hinchey Sets June 9 Meeting
On Upstate NY Energy Corridor
Congressman Maurice Hinchey (D-NY) will hold a public forum on the Dept. of Energy’s National Interest Energy Corridor proposal from 12:00-4:00pm at Sullivan West High School, located at 6604 State Route 52 in Lake Huntington, New York (Town of Cochecton). Read Hinchey’s comments made at the May 23 DOE hearing in NYC.

New Volunteer Opportunities Include:

  • A Development professional who can share access to PG Calc software to assist the Trail Conference;
  • Someone to prepare a PowerPoint presentation about ATV damage;
  • Someone who can meet TC citizen-scientists at the office from 3-5pm Saturdays and Sundays in June to receive their field reports.

Work Out with a Trail Crew in June
The West Jersey Trail Crew plans to build a bridge in Worthington State Forest and repair one at Weldon Brook Wildlife Management Area.
West Hudson South Trail Crew will be working on the AT at West Mountain and the Major Welch Trail at Bear Mountain.
West Hudson North is building a bridge on the Stillman Trail at Storm King State Park. All Trail Crew Schedules are regularly posted online.
