Guided Hike on the Lower Doris Duke Trail at Sterling Forest

Saturday, October 19, 2013 - 10:30am - 12:00pm
Join the Trail Conference Saturday, October 19, for a guided interpretive hike on the newly-completed lower leg of the Doris Duke  Trail at Sterling Forest, from1030am to 12 pm. A leisurely, easy walk (less than a mile each way) to view trail-building principles in practice. Enjoy great rock features and a  wetland overlook with fall foliage views, and some tree identification while they are in their festive best. Bring lunch to enjoy at the beaver overlook, and enough water. Primary hike leader will be Sona Mason, Sterling Forest Trails Project Manager. She will talk about trail building techniques along the way, project highlights to come, and the role of volunteers. Please contact Sona at 845-664-0417 or email [email protected] for exact directions and to confirm that you are coming. We contact you if there are any changes in our plans. Thank you! Meet: 10:30AM at the Doris Duke Trailhead parking lot, near the Renaissance Faire at Sterling forest. We will continue on to the Wildcat Mountain trail restoration site afterwards, for a work trip beginning at 1pm. You are very welcome to join us in completing the section of trail undergoing restoration, or to see the work in progress after your hike.  Please be prepared to get dirty if you are participating in the work trip afterward, and wear long sleeves and long pants, and sturdy shoes.
