Meet the Authors at the Balsam Lake Mountain Fire Tower
Posted July 23rd, 2012 by Melissa McCutcheon
Sunday, August 26, 2012 - 8:30am - 5:00pm
This year marks the 125th anniversary of Balsam Lake Mountain in the Catskills as the site of the first fire tower in New York State. Come celebrate at the Balsam Lake Mountain Fire Tower or the Catskill Center for Conservation and Development for an opportunity to "Meet the Authors" as part of the Central Catskills Great Outdoor Experience Festival.
There's a group hike from the Millbrook Road trailhead at 8:30am up to the summit tower, where you'll chat with the authors from 10am until 1pm. Authors include Marty Podskoch ("Fire Towers of the Catskills," "Adirondack Fire Towers," "Adirondack Civilian Conservation Corps Camps"), Dave and Carol White ("Catskill Day Hikes," "Catskill Peak Experiences," "Women with Altitude") and Diane Galusha ("Another Day, Another Dollar: The Civilian Conservation Corps in the Catskills," "Liquid Assets: The Story of New York City's Water System").
Or come meet the authors from 3pm until 5pm at the Catskill Center for Conservation and Development offices in Arkville! Jeff Senterman, our Catskill Region Program Coordinator, will be your host and have information on our stewardship efforts in the Catskills. There will be light refreshments and books available for purchase. For additional information, please contact Laurie Rankin at [email protected].
