Reserve June 10-11
As many of you know eastern forest issues have been left out the larger national debate on forest issues. Initiatives such as the
protection of national monuments, wilderness designation and even protection of roadless areas have had a western focus and leave out
lots of important areas in the east that need to be protected.
Further many of the initiatives in the West pass with the support
of our good Senators in the East. The time has come to get Eastern
issues on the national radar screen and to have our Senators support on
eastern protection issues.
The Eastern Forest Conference will spend day and a half discussing issues and strategies for the protection of eastern forests over
the next year. The objective of this conference will be to learn about
priority eastern forest issues and to create objectives and
strategies to develop a strong eastern forest movement and put Eastern Forest
concerns on the map.
Potential Topics to be discussed will include:
- Forest Service Appropriations
- National Forest Management Regulations Revisions/Forest Plan
Revisions
- Wilderness
- County Payments
- other eastern forest issues that are determined priorities
Following the conference there will be a lobby training and a
chance during the next week to lobby on priority eastern issues. Meetings
will be set up with administration and agency officials as well as Senate and House staff.
Here's your chance to make your Eastern Forest issues heard!
