| The fifth annual Ramapo River Watershed Conference will
be held on April 28, 2000 in the York Room of the Mansion at Ramapo
College of New Jersey, 9:30am coffee, 10am-4pm conference. The event
is free! Our focus will be on the urgent need to prevent any further
impairment of the water quality of the Ramapo River and its
tributaries and begin the restoration of water quality and biodivesity
of the watershed. Although we have recently preserved more Ramapo
Watershed open space in Sterling Forest, we have not yet achieved a
sustainable balance in the watershed which is still endangered by
toxic spills, overdevelopment, highway runoff and other non-point
source pollution.
Join us a the fifth annual Ramapo River Watershed Conference where
topics such as the two proposed power plants and quarry in Torne
Valley are discussed. We will hear a progress report from the US
Geological Survey on their two-year study of the interaction of
surface and ground water in the Ramapo Watershed. West Point and
Ramapo seniors will present results of several new studies in the
watershed.
