The fifth annual Ramapo River Watershed Conference will be held on April 28, 2000 in the York Room of the Mansion at Ramapo College of New Jersey, 9:30am coffee, 10am-4pm conference. The event is free! Our focus will be on the urgent need to prevent any further impairment of the water quality of the Ramapo River and its tributaries and begin the restoration of water quality and biodivesity of the watershed.

Although we have recently preserved more Ramapo Watershed open space in Sterling Forest, we have not yet achieved a sustainable balance in the watershed which is still endangered by toxic spills, overdevelopment, highway runoff and other non-point source pollution.

Join us a the fifth annual Ramapo River Watershed Conference where topics such as the two proposed power plants and quarry in Torne Valley are discussed. We will hear a progress report from the US Geological Survey on their two-year study of the interaction of surface and ground water in the Ramapo Watershed. West Point and Ramapo seniors will present results of several new studies in the watershed.

For more information or to reserve a spot, please call Geoff Welch at (914) 753-5634 or by e-mail: geoffwelch@aol.com.

The conference is mad possible by grants from Rockland County and the Hudson Valley Regional Council. Presented by the Ramapo River Watershed Council, Rockland County Conservation Association, the Village of Suffern, NY, the Passaic River Coalition, and the Ramapo River Committee.
