URGENT MEETING!!!

PROTECT THE NY HIGHLANDS

APRIL 8 FROM 7:00 P.M. TILL 9:00 P.M.

BEAR MOUNTAIN INN

The Central Appalachian Highlands stretch from Pennsylvania to Connecticut. In our area, they include such areas as the Ramapo Mountains, Hudson Highlands, Schunemunk Mountain and Black Rock Forest. These New York Highlands lend special character and beauty to our region and to many of our communities. They are the last best refuge for wildlife as well as for people who want to "get away from it all", and they are the irreplaceable source of much of our drinking water.

Suburban sprawl and industrial development are eating away at the Highlands every day. We have viable solutions to enable us to protect the most vital environmental treasures in the Highlands.

Seth Mckee of Scenic Hudson will talk about the "Critical Treasures" at risk in the Highlands.

Tom Gilbert, Chair of the Highlands Coalition, will talk about the important US Forest Service hearing that will shape the Highland’s future, and new legislation to be introduced by Rep. Ben Gilman that will finance the purchase of lands critical to the integrity of the region.

Dick Whiteford, Highlands Coalition Outreach Coordinator, will talk about how we can work together most effectively to save our Highlands from the "death by a thousand cuts" that now threatens its beauty, resources, and wholeness.

This is a great opportunity to work together as individual citizens, local groups, and regional organizations to maximize our political clout and effectiveness! Please attend this meeting to learn more about the NY Highlands and the pivotal role that you, your community and environmental groups can play in saving them.
