On June 5 at 10 AM there will be a ribbon cutting ceremony, a speach by Leo Smiht, Overlook Mountain Fire Tower Restoration Chairman, a guided tour of the fire tower, including a 360-degree view of the Catskills and Hudson Valley.
The restoration of the fire tower was made possible through a group of local volunteers with assistance from The Catskill Center for Conservation and Development, the New York - New Jersey Trail Conference, and George Profous, Senior Forester, of the DEC's New Paltz office. This is the first of five fire towers in the Catskill Forest Preserve to be restoreed and opened to the public. Information on the project, it's future, and hiking in the Forest Preserve will be available from the fire tower volunteers and DEC personnel at the re-opening.
