We are in the process of setting up a
collection of web pages that have descriptions of easy beginner hikes (EBH). We will select hikes that are well distributed over the whole bi-state region (see overview map). Please browse the current
list of hikes and nominate hikes in areas that are not covered yet, new areas, or
hikes that you feel are better than ones which are already listed. A few clues to
what might count as a EBH follow. Each hike should have many of the following
characteristics.
- no or few trail junctions, good marking
- interesting or spectacular terrain, flora, fauna or destination
- can wear sneakers, e.g. not too muddy/wet or big rock hop stream crossings, or rock
scrambles
- 2-6 miles long
- 2 miles < 400 ft elevation gain; 6 miles < 800 ft elevation gain
- easy-to-find trailhead
Foot traffic only trails preferred. Bonus points for submitting an ADA
accessible hike or a hike with public transportation to trailhead. These hikes don't have
to be on Trail Conference maintained trails. Supply a reference to a description or supply
one.
