HIGHLANDS ALERT!
Forest Service ‘Listening Sessions’ Scheduled
for May
Please save a date, and plan to attend!
Your comments and presence are important!
The U.S. Forest Service is updating its 1992 New York-New Jersey
Highlands Regional Study.
This is an opportunity for us to demonstrate the depth of concern
about the Highlands.
BE THERE!
The Forest Service is looking for responses to these questions:
- What are the natural resources that are important to
include in the Study process?
The Forest Service plans to develop scientifically based resource
information to assess watershed conditions, forest fragmentation and
biological diversity in the New York and New Jersey portions of the
Highlands Region.
How are resource conditions and use changing?
The study plans to update and improve the collection and analysis
of data on land, water and people for the New York and New Jersey
portions of the Highlands Region.
Who should be responsible for the stewardship of natural
resources in the Highlands?
Public and private options for managing natural resources and their
uses will be identified in the final report. The Highlands Coalition
advocates a partnership approach involving municipalities, counties,
states and the federal government, plus private nonprofits and
landowners.
