Dear (Senator or Assemblyman) ------------------,

As a New Jersey citizen and a District 40 voter I am writing today to urge your unequivocal support for S-1/A-2635, also known as the “Highlands Water Protection and Planning Act.”

I am concerned for the future of New Jersey’s clean water supply and open spaces. I have personally witnessed unprecedented widespread development in New Jersey, which is burdening our already insufficient water resources. Unless we curb this rate of growth, the citizens of New Jersey will not have clean water, will not have open space, will not have a high quality of life, but will have to spend billions to provide drinking water.

Our local governments are failing to protect our vital natural resources. I support all of the Task Force’s findings, including a regional planning council with the mandatory preservation authority required to take action.

I support the goal of protecting 390,000 acres in the New Jersey Highlands. I also support the Task Force’s recommendations that the NJ Department of Environmental Protection have enhanced regulatory authority to regulate development that threatens water quality and Highland’s natural resources.

Should you fail in passing this Bill, you will have failed the citizens of New Jersey in what is probably the most important piece of legislation to protect our families for years to come. As my elected representative, I want you to give S-1/A-2635 your full support.

Very Truly Yours,
