NJ Highlands Protection Legislation

Picture of something
Folks:

I am very pleased to report that both chambers of the NJ State Legislature approved the Highlands Water Protection and Planning Act today with overwhelming bipartisan support (34-2 in the Senate and 69-10 in the Assembly)!!

The bill now awaits the Governor's signature to become law. This tremendous legislative victory represents the culmination of well more than a decade of work by many committed people and organizations, too numerous to mention. Thanks to all of you who put so much into this effort. It is a great day for the NJ Highlands!

Yours,

Tom Gilbert, Executive Director of the Highlands Coalition. 6/10/2004

NJ residents - Help educate your State Representatives and Senators about passing Highlands Water Protection and Planning Act  to implement the recommendations of the Highlands Task Force. Nothing will influence hiking in the Highlands more than this in the next 20 or more years.

The Trail Conference Board passed a resolution on March 23rd supporting the Highlands Coalition NJ State Committee resolution in support of the Highlands Task Force Recommendations.

The Board also passed a resolution authorizing us to vigorously support the passage of the Highlands Water Protection and Planning Act within the confines of our budget and 501 (c) (3) charter. In doing so, they urged us to work within the process to recognize the importance of open space connectivity, continous greenways and recreational resources. Others groups will be pursuing the protection of water resources so that will be covered as well.

We are going to need a lot of volunteers to show the large grassroots support for the Highlands as well as key people to take leadership roles in each legislative district. Please fill out the form below and join our effort to protect the Highlands.

I can to take a leadership role in my legislative district, i.e meet with elected officials.

I can't commit to a leadership role, but count me in for grassroots support at meetings and writing letters to legistlators and newspapers.

I can't commit to  time and effort, but I can make a financial contribution to support the effort.

I want to keep informed about progress and want to receive updates on progress (weekly email).
