Funding in Works for NYS ParksBigger, Better Bottle Bill Gets New Life |
|
Trails and trail lands would benefit from improvements to New York State parks that would be funded by Governor Spitzer's initial budget proposal for 2008. His plan calls for $110 million for capital improvements to state parks facilities, DEC campgrounds, and transformation of an old railroad bridge over the Hudson River between Poughkeepsie and Highland into a walking/bicycling park. In addition, he has recommended appropriating $250 million into the Environmental Protection Fund, the same as the current year's budget.
He has once again put forward the Bigger, Better Bottle Bill. BBBB would improve recycling of plastic and glass beverage containers by adding to the current nickel-deposit program beverages, such as water and non-carbonated beverages, that are not now included. Unclaimed nickel deposits would be directed to the state's Environmental Protection Fund.
