The Unforeseen:
A movie followed by discussion about Belleayre

Picture of something

Belleayre Mountain and New York City's Water are in Danger!!!

A proposed mega-resort development on Belleayre Mountain in the Catskills would imperil NYC's water supply, requiring chemical filtration that could cost taxpayers $23 billion, and put an end to the largest unfiltered municipal water system in the world--and one of the best. This development will ruin the mountain for hiking and compromise our water supply.

It has happened elsewhere. Come see the new film by Laura Dunn, THE UNFORESEEN, produced by Robert Redford and Terrence Malick. It shows how development for short-term profit harms our long-term ability to sustain life and quality of life in the most immediate terms--from being able to water a lawn to having water to drink to its impact on our food. Dunn does this by dramatically following the story of a developer, and by examining the role of popular activism, corporate lobbying, and politics.

To learn more about what an irresponsible development did to one community in Texas, please come to the screening, followed by a discussion.
