We’ve made the program simple, so that it is quick, easy and convenient for you to recruit new members. Here are some basic steps to follow while recruiting new members from March 1 through May 31, 2008.
- Introduce your friends, family and fellow hikers to the Trail Conference and what we do. Encourage them to visit our website or call the office if they have questions. Walk them through the benefits of being a member, such as the special discounts they could receive at local outdoor retailers. Tell them why you joined the Trail Conference and what it means to you.
- Have them fill out a membership application — but make sure they include your name in the “referred by” space so that you get credit for referring them! They should submit that form to the Trail Conference with their dues. They can apply online very easily or, if they prefer, they can mail it in. Either way, the process takes just minutes!
- Once the Trail Conference receives the application, your name will be entered into the prize raffle and the new member added to your recruitment total as you move toward winning one of the grand prizes!
As you think about who you want to ask to join the Trail Conference, here are some ideal candidates:
• Friends you often hike with who are not current members
• A colleague who is interested in hiking
• Friends who frequently shop at our outdoor retailers
• Family members who share your concern with environmental issues
• Individuals interested in supporting the renovation of the historic Darlington Schoolhouse, our future headquarters
• Neighbors who are interested in discovering new family activities
As you can see, the prospects are limited only by your imagination! Remind everyone that, as members, they’ll receive all the great benefits that you enjoy as a member: a free subscription to the Trail Walker, 25% off Trail Conference books and maps, members-only discounts at leading outdoor retailers and other establishments, and the satisfaction of supporting the organization that has kept the trails open for you since 1920. The Emerson Resort and Spa has joined the MGM campaign for the second year in the row! If you win this second place prize you get to experience one-night in a gorgeous junior suite complete with a first-floor living room, wet bar, mini-bar, flat screen television, queen-sized sofa bed and small dining table.
A natural wood staircase will lead you to a second floor bedroom with a king or queen-sized bed, a bathroom with a shower and whirlpool tub and a balcony that overlooks the scenic Catskill valley. This prize, valued at $450, is worth the effort to sign up heaps of new members!

Three members will have the opportunity to win this exciting prize that allows you to choose between the water package (which includes a kayak, PFD, paddle and cartop accessory) or the snow package (which includes snowshoes, trekking poles and a backpack). EMS designs and offers a wide variety of gear and clothing for outdoor enthusiasts—from backpacks and insulated parkas to cycling gear and summer shorts.

Matt’s Sporting Goods has donated a Daiwa Executive Travel Pack Fishing Pole and Reel valued at $100. This great prize comes in
a padded, black travel case, excellent for wherever you may need to go! Matt’s Sporting Goods supplies Fishing, Camping, Archery, Kayaking/Canoeing, Paintball and Skateboarding Equipment and is located in Haverstraw, NY.
Overnight camping package
Ray’s Sport Shop will provide this winner with the equipment needed for a night in the outdoors — a 30-degree Slumberjack® sleeping bag, sleeping pad, lantern and pot set. You’ll be ready for adventure! Ray’s Sport Shop is the place to go for hunting, fishing and outdoor equipment. Located in North Plainfield, NJ.
$50 gift certificate
Hudson Valley Outfitters has generously given a $50 gift certificate to their Cold Spring retail store for any item of your choosing. They are located just one block from the Cold Spring Train Station and offer great clothing and footwear for hiking, paddling and keeping fit. They also provide kayak sales, tours, rentals and instruction.

Basecamp Adventure Outfitters has given this year’s MGM Campaign a $50 gift certificate, good toward any item in their retail store. Located in Basking Ridge, NJ,
BAO is a fine retailer of outdoor equipment and goods. They host a
weekly environmental book club as
well as several events each month. As a promoter of local business and economy, they are an excellent shop to visit.
Wooden Walking Stick
Blue Ridge Mountain Sports, Madison, NJ store is offering a gorgeous wooden walking stick as a wonderful prize for this year’s 2008 MGM campaign. BRMS
has retail stores
in Madison and Princeton, NJ. Since 1972 BRMS

Member-Get-A-Member 2008 campaign Official Rules
- The 2008 Member-Get-A-Member campaign is open to all NY-NJ Trail Conference members in good standing.
- The three individuals credited with sponsoring the most new memberships will be awarded individual prizes in corresponding order: Grand prize, Second place prize, and Third place prize. All other participants will be eligible
for prizes awarded in a random raffle drawing. For each new member recruited, you will be given one chance in
the raffle to win a prize. The more new members you recruit, the better your chance of winning a prize.
- To receive credit for each new member*, the name of the NY-NJ Trail Conference member (sponsor) must appear
in the “Referred by” section of the membership application.
- If you encourage prospects to call us directly to join, please remember to tell them to mention your name so that
we can give you proper credit.
- If you advise a new member to join online, please remember to tell them to write your name in the “Referred by”
space of the membership application.
- A new member is officially credited to their sponsor when the prospect becomes a member and membership
payment has been received.
- All applications and membership payments must be received between March 1 and May 31, 2008 to be counted
toward the Member-Get-A-Member 2008 campaign.
- Contest rules and prizes are subject to change by the NY-NJ Trail Conference.
- One prize per individual member. By entering the contest, members agree that NY-NJ Trail Conference decisions
are final. No purchase necessary to enter or win. All federal, state, and local laws apply. Void where prohibited.
- NY-NJ Trail Conference employees, Board members and their relatives are ineligible to participate in the raffle drawing.
- Winners will be notified the second week of June and prizes will be awarded at the June Trail Conference meeting
(or sent by mail).
*New members are defined as individuals that are not dues-paying members of the Trail Conference and have not been active members in 2007 or 2008. Once a new membership application has been received and payment accepted, individuals named on the application become eligible to sponsor new members and to qualify for Member-Get-A-Member prizes.
