See our trail condition report pages for recent reports.
Reports are slowly coming in. At the very least expect many blowdowns on most trails. Add some time to your normally expected hiking time to deal with crawling over blowdowns. There may also be extensive washouts, particularly on old woods roads. Please help us get them cleaned up as soon as possible by reporting any damage or blowdowns. Be as specific as you can about the exact location of the problems as that will help our chainsaw crews find them quickly. If you would like to help with the cleanup, note that on your report. Besides chainsawing, the work goes much faster if there are several people to throw the newly cut pieces off the trail.
Harriman Park is reporting severe damage in many areas. The park is open but be careful. There may be down power lines and trees that are still unstable and ready to fall.
For those of you venturing as far as the Adirondacks, they have major problems. Avalanche Pass is closed. There are new large slides on Wright, Algonquin and Colden and smaller slides on Sawteeth, Gothics, and Armstrong. Hiking may be dangerous in some areas. Some people have reported spending an hour going through a mile of blowdown on some trails. Take your bow saw with you (no power tools in the wilderness areas).
