Congratulations to the Adirondack Mountain Club for their long and hard lobbying for state purchase of Whitney Park.
On Monday, December 22, New York State agreed to purchase 15,000 acres of land in the western Adirondacks, including the land around Little Tupper Lake, the largest privately owned lake east of the Mississippi. The agreement includes an easement, held by the Nature Conservancy, that prevents development of an additional 36,000 acres for 20 years while additional funding is sought to complete the purchase. There are possibilities for another 143,000 acres owned by Champion International.
