| On August 8, Pam Underhill (NPS) and Fr. Art Johnson
met to work out details of future negotiations for possible easements
on the Graymoor property. The restarting of the negotiations were
aided by the intervention of Sen. Schumer and Rep. Kelly into what had
been a stalemate. The first negotiation meeting will be on Aug 23rd
and all parties are eager for a quick, amicable, fair solution.
See http://www.atonementfriars.org/Appalachian_Trail.htm
for a statement by Fr. Johnson.
-------- older information some of which still applies -------
Don't believe everything you read in the papers, e.g. New
York Times, Aug. 1. There are always at least two or more
viewpoints. All of the news articles published so far are spun from
the point of view of the friars.
Pam Underhill, NPS park manager, said today, "The eminent
domain proceedings are on hold while negotiations continue. We are
hopeful of reaching agreement."
You may get letters urging you to write to various public officials
supporting either side. Please refrain from doing so at the moment as
it may be counterproductive to negotiations. However, stay tuned for
future requests, should they become necessary.
