Jan Hesbon resigns as Executive Director
As announced in the Nov/Dec Trail Walker, Jan Hesbon decided
to take a new job with the ACLU. Judith Fulmer, currently
Administrative Director, will be acting director while a search
committee finds a new permanent Executive. The full
details are in the Trail Walker.
The Office is Moving to
Mahwah, NJ about February 1, 2001
The rent in Manhattan is rapidly climbing out of our price range.
The Board decided a while ago to start looking at the possible places
to move to including other buildings in Manhattan, the boroughs, and
nearby NY and NJ. Recently, Pete Heckler, a board member, drove by a
building for rent sign that looked like a strong possibility. Upon
investigation it turned out to very attractive and we signed the lease
before anyone else could grab it.
Many
hikers should now find it convenient to drop by our new location as it
is very close to the center of the hiking area that we serve and is
just south of the intersection of I-287 and Rt 17 at 156 Ramapo Valley Road (Rt 202). It is less than a mile from the NY state line. The
Ramapo River is directly in back of the building which is built on the
site of the former Hopper Gristmill. It is a little over a mile to the
train at Suffern or the Shortline bus at Mahwah. More
pictures.
Over the next few months there will be opportunities for members to
help with the move and after we move we will need to recruit both
part-time staff and volunteers to help run the office. A more formal announcement
of exact opportunities will appear as we reorganize.
