As you may realize, we have had almost no rain this month. Fires broke out  in Harriman over the weekend. It it continues dry, a park closure is  possible even at this time of the year. Hopefully, it will not come to  that.

Status of the fires:

Three Fires (as of 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, 10/31/01):

  • Surebridge Mt., 450 acres, contained
  • T-14 & T-17, 7 acres by power lines, contained
  • Doodletown, 1/4 acre by school house, out.

If Harriman is dry enough to burn, so is almost everything else in the area. Be extra careful and be our eyes in the forest. Report any fires to the appropriate park or 911. If you see people building campfires explain (politely) the high fire danger to them and ask them to desist (politely). If you get any static, report them as well.
