Get the Facts

"Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but not their own facts." Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan

News media, politicians and even environmental organizations apply their own "spin". Words do not always mean what you think they mean. The names of congressional bills are particularly prone to spin, e.g the Bush Administration's "Clear Skies" does not really mean clear skies. It means whatever partial clearing of the skies that the particular rules in that bill will provide. There are other proposals that will provide clearer skies.

These three sites are widely believed to be unbiased.

These sites are biased but include information not always seen elsewhere. Check out the facts for yourself with the sites above.

Many magazines and organizations ask the candidates for answers to particular questions that they think their constituants would be interested in:

501 (c) (3) restrictions on political advocacy

The Trail Conference is a 501 (c) (3) organization and as such it is severely restricted from supporting particular candidates. You, as an individual, have no restrictions on your involvment in politics and we encourage you to be active, in particular learn the positions of hiker-friendly candidates and others who are strong supporters of the natural environment and open space.
