DEC Lead Agency on Shawanga Lodge

Paula Medley of the Basha Kill Association called me tonight with the good news that the Mamakating Planning Board agreed to DEC's request for lead agency status on the SEQR review of the Shawanga Lodge proposal. DEC's leadership will ensure a thorough and impartial review of this massive resort development planned for the top of the Shawangunk Ridge. Based on our viewshed analysis, over 160,000 people would be able to see this development from where they live on either side of the Ridge. (See www.shawangunkridge.org/news.htm)

All those who sent letters last month and last year requesting that DEC be the Lead Agency in this important SEQR review deserve our congratulations and thanks for their efforts.

Paula also said that the Mamakating Town Board voted unanimously to seek ways to ensure that the Wurtsboro Airport is protected and maintained. Thanks again for those supporting this effort.
