CCC Bluehole Litter Pick Up

It was a year of growth and opportunities for the Catskill Conservation Corps (CCC). We started out strong in 2015, working with the Catskill Regional Invasive Species Partnership (CRISP) to eradicate knotweed from the area surrounding Russell Brook Falls. Throughout the season, the CCC conducted multiple litter pick-up events in heavily used locations such as Katterskill Falls, as well as multiple cleanups in the Blue Hole area of Peekamoose. All trips were well attended, with an impressive 25 volunteers helping at one of the cleanups. The four workshops we hosted, including Intro to Trail Maintenance and Intro to Shelter/ Lean-to Maintenance courses, were just as successful.

The CCC is growing by the day. Our website and Facebook page are receiving more interest, thanks in part to the opening of the Maurice D. Hinchey Catskill Interpretive Center in July. The CCC has also been instrumental in recruiting volunteers to help operate the facility.

2016 is shaping up to be an even bigger year for the CCC, with many large projects—including building trails at the Interpretive Center, constructing new lean-tos, and starting several off-trail projects, quickly coming together.
