Fall in Love with Trails Photo Contest Winners: 2011

Congratulations to Trail Conference member Mike Matlick, the grand prize winner of our Fall in Love With Trails Photo Contest!

305 photos were submitted in the contest, which took place on our Facebook page. Submissions were accepted through October, and voting took place through November.

Mike snapped the winning photo (top left) in Harriman State Park near Silvermine Lake just off the Menomine Trail. (The trail is maintained by Trail Conference volunteer Steve Zubarik.) To get this great fall shot, which includes dappled woods and white-tailed wildlife, Mike says he was just lucky to be in the right place at the right time.

Mike, a resident of Dumont, NJ, hikes mostly in Harriman and Storm King State Parks, but is working his way north to the Shawangunks and Catskills with his camera. Along with a complimentary annual membership and complete set of Trail Conference maps, Mike received a $250 Campmor gift certificate. And what did he spend it on? …Snowshoes! He’d been in the store eyeing a pair during the October snowstorm, but presciently decided to hold off on the purchase until after our contest.
