NEW JERSEY

In New Jersey, the Fish and Wildlife division reports that "Hunters can enjoy more than a hundred days of deer hunting, including seasons for bow, shotgun and muzzleloading rifle." The when and where of these hunting days can be hard to figure out, so the safest course in the fall is to hike only on Sundays, when hunting with firearms is generally prohibited throughout the state. (Seasonal bow-hunting is permitted in Wildlife Management Areas on Sundays.) Otherwise, hunting seasons vary by weapon and geography.

Hunting season information is found in the NJ Hunting Digest, available at license agents and at njfishandwildlife.com/dighnt13.htm

Summaries of deer and other hunting seasons can be found at njfishandwildlife.com/njregs.htm#hunting

NJ Parks Hunting Areas

Morris County Parks will be open for limited deer hunting again this season. The purpose is to manage the size of the deer herd to protect woodland ecology. A list of the locations and timetable of hunts is posted at morrisparks.net/deer/whitetail-schedule.asp
