To an outdoors person or hiker or walker, choosing to close parks rather than eliminate obvious state government wasteful projects is just unbelievable. Some people go every day and others a minimum of once a week to Thacher Park to keep in shape, relax or just enjoy the fresh air and views. The park's imaginative managers recently have created wonderful new trails.

In addition, as Gov. David Paterson and state legislators may not know, the Long Path trail begins in Fort Lee, N.J., at the western end of the George Washington Bridge, and ends at the northern border of Thacher Park. The New York-New Jersey Trail Conference passed a resolution in 1960 to resume building the Long Path. . .
