Weis Ecology Center to Close; No Impact Expected on Access to Trails

Body

The Trail Conference has recently received word that Weis Ecology Center in Ringwood, NJ will be shutting its doors at the end of the calendar year.

The Weis Ecology Center property provides parking for and access to an extensive, Trail Conference-maintained trail system in Norvin Green State Forest.  Some of New Jersey’s greatest views can be seen from these trails and they are among some of the most traveled trails in the state.

The Weis lands were acquired through Green Acres funding, meaning that access to these trails will be protected in perpetuity.  The Center is owned and operated by NJ Audubon Society, which has said it has no plans to deny access to the trails. The parking area will remain open to the general public.

The closure of Weis is part of an organizational wide restructuring by NJ Audubon.  More information about the restructuring can be found here: http://www.njaudubon.org/SectionAboutNJAS/Reorganization.aspx.
