For residents in the northeastern part of Westchester County, the Brownell Preserve is a place to take a quick walk.

When Hurricane Sandy blew through Westchester County in the fall of 2012, she inflicted heavy damage to Brownell Preserve. Trees completely blocked trails making it impossible to walk. In 2016, thanks to the efforts by town volunteers and a civic internship at John Jay High School, trails were cleared making it possible to once again enjoy the preserve.
