Park Description:

Not to be confused with the "Home of Franklin D Roosevelt National Historic Site" in Hyde Park, this New York State Park is a large multi-use facility with picnic tables, board rentals, playing fields, and a swimming pool. There are two distinct user groups.

  • In season and weekends, picnickers arrive by the carful and busload, filling the park with sounds of people enjoying the outdoors and smells wafting from grills. During weekends in spring and fall, road races and walkathons utilize the park roads.
  • But on weekdays and off season weekends, local residents walk, jog, or bike along the park roads in relative isolation. Small children practice riding their bicycles in empty parking lots. Still others just come to enjoy being outdoors.
Trails Overview:

The trails at FDR are being upgraded to include blazing. On the easternmost part of the park, a road built by the Civilian Conservation Corp provides a quiet place to walk under tall trees. A paved path essentially paralleling the park road to the swimming area is handicapped accessible.

A trail map link appears on the park's web page (use Contact Information below)
