|Park Description:|| |
Saxon Woods Park stretches for 2.5 miles along the Mamaroneck River, in the heart of Westchester County. The topography is typical Westchester woodland with tall trees, wetlands, rock outcroppings, and little understory.
A golf course, picnic area, and swimming pool are also in Saxon Woods.
The park is named for William Saxon, who operated a saw mill on the river in colonial times. A Westchester County park pass is not required to use the trails, but is required for the swimming pool.
|Trails Overview:|| |
Wide and narrow trails are in both sections of Saxon Woods Park. They are connected via the Hutchinson River Pathway. The Colonial Greenway is in the southern section. Cross country skiing is available on the golf course.
The multiple entrances are all accessible from the Hutchinson River Parkway.
To reach the trail system in the northern section, take Exit 23N (Mamaroneck Avenue) and head toward White Plains. Turn right at the end of the exit ramp and drive to the park entrance on the left. It is 0.1 mile from the end of the southbound exit ramp to the park entrance and parking. Another access to the northern section of Saxon Woods Park is through Saxon Woods Golf Course. Take Exit 22 (Mamaroneck Road) and turn right. The parking for the golf course is to the right, at the first right turn after the southbound exit ramp.
For the southern section of Saxon Wood Park, take Exit 23S toward Mamaroneck and turn right at the end of the exit ramp. From the southbound exit ramp, it is 0.4 mile to the park entrance on the right and from the northbound entrance ramp, 0.3 mile.
