Dormant Since 1999
The "Highlands" are a geological feature that runs roughly from Reading Pennsylvania to the Housatonic River in Connecticut. It is composed of primarily precambrian igneous and metamorphic rock. It is the focus of a large number of environmental groups trying to protect the area. One of the resources needed by all of these groups is good mapping information about the land ownership, land uses, flora/fauna, and protected status of the area. This User Group will focus on sharing the data about the region so others do not have to duplicate the work needed to collect it. In particular this group will focus on that part of the Highlands in New York.
