SCENIC BYWAY CORRIDOR MANAGEMENT PLAN
Public Workshop/Meeting Announcment

If you would like to hear about or contribute to a Scenic Byway Corridor Management Plan
for the New York section of the Palisades Interstate Parkway, come to a public workshop
meeting at 7:30pm on Tuesday April 27th, 1999 at the Orangetown Town Hall, 26
Orangeburg Road in Rockland County. This meeting wil focus on the seven goals and
objectives identified by an advisor committee composed of municipal leaders, interested
parties and State government agencies that have been meeting over the last siz months
discussing and developing the draft scenic byway corridor management plan. All
municipalities along the parkway have been invited to be on the committee and to come to
the meetings. A number of municipalities are represented on the committee. The Rockland
County Planning Department, Palisades Interstate Park Commission, Hudson River Greenway
Coucil, Automobile Association of America, New York State Department of Transportation,
New York - New Jersey Trail Conference and other organizations are also on the committee.
This is the second public workshop on the plan effort, the first was held on November
12th, 1998 at the Clarkstown Town Hall in New CIty, Rockland County.
Discussion topics will include promoting tourism, improving linkages to the parks and communities along the corridor; encouraging local communities to conserve buffers and viewsheds; improving visitor and user facilities; providing improved transportation and byway information; enhancing aesthetics and landscaping along the parkway and corridor; providing and improving trails and bikeways in and along the corridor; identifying maintenance problems; solutions and funding and working with New Jersey to extend the Scenic Byway Corridor designation to include the New Jersey section of the Parkway.
