Dear Friends, The Sterling Forge Estates project, which would put a golf course and 93 big homes on property surrounded by Sterling Forest State Park, is showing signs of distress. Deep faults in the plan were brought to light, and the planners found themselves scrambling to distract attention from them and cover them over with cosmetics.

A team of consultants organized and funded by the Sterling Forest Partnership was essential in exposing the flaws in the Sterling Forge plan. The plan would result in contamination of water, destruction of forest, and radical alteration of the ecosystem affecting Sterling Forest State Park.

As a result, the developers failed in a bid to have the plan approved by the Tuxedo Town Board last November. This was a significant (but temporary) victory for the Sterling Forest Partnership and its supporters. The Town Board requested additional study and additional information before reconsidering the plan. Eventually the Town Board must request public responses and concerns. The schedule has not been determined, but we will inform you as the date for the public hearing approaches.

The Sterling Forest Partnership will continue to defend Sterling Forest State Park. To hire expert consultants, get legal advice, hold public information sessions, issue newsletters, and keep the discussion alive, we need your help.

This year, an anonymous donor pledged a generous matching grant to help accelerate fundraising efforts. The donor will match 50% of the first $10,000 raised this season. This is a great boon for the Partnership. It means that every individual fifty-dollar gift will automatically take on the force of $75; every $100 becomes $150, until the goal is reached.
