A 2-mile extension of the Minisink Trail (MT, red blazes) was recently finished. The MT, which starts off the Lenape Ridge Trail (LRT) and rejoins that trail about 2 mi later, now is 4 mi long and extends to Rte 6, at the townline of Greenville and Deerpark. There is parking for several cars at Rte 6, and at the corner of the Greenville Turnpike and Limekiln road. It is possible to turn this hike into a loop hike by following a woods road south and west, shortly before Rte 6 is reached, as shown on the map. This woods road ends up at the end of Limekiln Road, a dead-end road that provides an easy walk back to the Old Greenville Turnpike and the LRT.
The extension crosses a powerline shortly after it leaves the junction with the LRT, and continues on a narrow ridge to a great viewpoint where the railroad passses through a cut in the ridge. The trail makes a sharp turn here, and heads down to a flat valley with open woods. It crosses a couple of wood roads and streams, and follows a stone wall to another stream. Soon the trail reaches a woods road, which it follows south. The MT crosses the powerline again, and several other woods roads branch in various directions.
