Hike Description:

Take carriage road to river cove, look for white-blazed footpath at river's edge. Views north include the Esopus Meadows Lighthouse and Catskill Mountains. In one mile, you emerge at a picnic area; Mount Saint Alphonsus Seminary sits like a castle on west shore. Trail continues at southern end of roadway and to and through Norrie Point campground. View south includes Norrie Point Marina and Esopus Island. When trail comes out on a dirt road after a cabin, stay straight on road, turn right at junction onto paved road. Look for blue blazes at next parking area on left. These will mostly follow carriage roads through woods back to Mills Mansion.

How to get there:

Route 9 north, 3.5 miles north of Vanderbilt Mansion take left (Old Post Road) into Staatsburg. At 1 mile, turn left into Staatsburgh Historic Site at Mills Memorial Park. From parking area, walk toward river on Gardeners House Lane.
